Orascom Development Egypt (ODE) is an integrated developer of resort towns in Egypt, with a vertically-integrated business model involving the development of residential units, hotels, and recreational facilities such as golf courses, town centers, and marinas, in addition to supporting infrastructure, such as hospitals, schools, and utilities. ODE currently owns a land bank of 49.9 million square meter and 23 hotels with a total of 4,919 rooms within four operating destinations. El Gouna, on the Egyptian Red Sea Coast in Hurghada, Taba Heights, on the Sinai Peninsula, Makadi Heights in Hurghada and Byoum in Fayoum.

Orascom Development Egypt (ODE) is the largest subsidiary of Orascom Development Holding (ODH). ODH is a leading developer of fully integrated destinations with a diverse portfolio of worldwide destinations covering Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Morocco, Montenegro, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The group operates a total of 32 hotels with 7,205 rooms and controls approximately 101 million sqm of land.

ODE is listed in the Egyptian Stock Exchange (EGX) with 1,130,473,523 outstanding shares where Orascom Development Holding (ODH) owns 75%.

Dr. Samy Saad Zaghloul Chairman Non-Executive

Dr. Samy Saad Zaghloul is the former Executive Director representing Egypt & Djibouti at the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group and former Dean of the Board. He served as the Secretary General of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Egyptian Government for 8 years. Before joining the Government of Egypt, Dr. Zaghloul served as Chief Technical Officer and Member of the Board of Nile Online. Dr. Zaghloul sat on the Boards of many distinguished organizations, including Chairman of the Board of the National Fund for Youth and Sports; Board Member of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA); Board Member of Egypt Telecommunication Company and Board Member of the Social Fund for Development (SFD). Dr. Zaghloul received his PhD from Harvard University in Urban Planning. He holds three distinct masters’ degrees: in Public Administration from Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government; in Computer Science from Harvard University and in Computer Science from Cairo University, Faculty of Engineering.

Omar El Hamamsy CEO of ODH & ODE

El Hamamsy joins ODH from McKinsey & Company where he is a Senior Partner in the Middle East office and was previously in the Belgium office.  In his 18 years at McKinsey, he led many practices including Travel and Transport.  In his client work, his main focus was leading comprehensive transformations of multi-national companies in the Middle East and Europe. He also worked on a number of cross-border acquisitions and integrations for these companies.  His clients at McKinsey spanned many sectors and he supported them on topics ranging from strategy, organization, sales and marketing, operations, and finance. Prior to joining McKinsey, El Hamamsy worked for six years at AT&T’s Bell Labs in the US where he was managing a global engineering team for wireless product development.  He holds a master’s degree from Stanford University. El Hamamsy also sits on the regional Board of Directors of “Injaz Al-Arab” (a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide), a non-profit organization focused on youth education where he leads the Board’s Operations Committee.

Samih Sawiris Chairman of ODH & Non-Executive Member

After receiving his Diploma in economic engineering from the Technical University of Berlin in 1980, Mr. Sawiris founded his first company, National Marine Boat Factory. In 1996 he established Orascom Projects for Touristic Development and in 1997 Orascom Hotel Holdings, the two companies that later merged to form Orascom Hotels & Development S.A.E. Further-more, Mr. Sawiris established El Gouna Beverages Co. in 1997, which he sold in 2001 when it was the largest beverage company in Egypt. As of April 1, 2014, Mr. Sawiris took over the position of the CEO on ad-interim basis of Orascom Development and serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Taya S. Sawiris Non-Executive Member

Taya Sawiris co-founded the Tasoni retail stores in Switzerland in 2014. Prior to that she worked for 3 years at a 2-billion dollars New York based Real Estate Fund. There she primarily conducted extensive market analysis matching hotel and retail tenants to properties, as well as coordinating international hotel brands, potential foreign investors and retail brands for US investments. Taya started her career at Orascom Development in 2010 as International Hotel Development Analyst. She earned her BSc in International Hospitality Management from Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne.

Amr Badr Non-Executive Member

Mr. Badr currently holds the position of Regional Managing Director of Abercrombie & Kent for Egypt and the Middle East. Abercrombie & Kent has been a worldwide leader in luxury travel since its establishment in 1962. Abercrombie & Kent Egypt is a full-service travel agency and ground operator with extensive experience in leisure, cruise, conferences, events, and educational travel. Mr. Badr also oversees A&K’s operations in Morocco, Jordan, and Libya. In 2013, Amr Badr has been appointed to be a Board member on the Egypt – U.S. Business council and also on the Board of the Egyptian National Tourism Association. Mr. Badr also serves as International advisor for the Future University in Egypt as well as the Board of Directors of Tomorrow’s Youth International Organization based in Washington. He is also an active member of the Egypt Chapter of the Partners of New Beginning based in Washington. Mr. Badr also serves as an advisor to the Chairman & CEO of Carbon Holding International, the largest fertilizer and petrochemical company in the region.  As a longtime advocate for peace and increased international understanding, Mr. Badr also serves on the Board of Directors of Seeds of Peace, an organization dedicated to empowering young leaders from regions of conflict with the leadership skills required to advance reconciliation and coexistence. Badr also serves on the Board of Directors of People to People International and serves on the Advisory Board of the United States Center for Citizen Diplomacy.

Ashraf Nessim CFO of ODH & ODE & Executive Member

Eng. Nessim has more than 20 years of experience in various fields including finance, infrastructure and hospitality. He currently holds the position of the Group’s Chief Financial Officer of Orascom Development Holding. He is also the Chief Financial Officer of Orascom Hotels and Development the Egyptian largest subsidiary of the group which encompasses 64 subsidiaries. Prior to joining the group he was the Chief Financial Officer representing Beltone Private Equity in their Pick Albatros Investment, one of the largest players in the travel and tourism industry in Egypt with almost 6,000 rooms under management. He played a pivotal role in the legal and financial restructuring of Pick Albatros Group. From 2007 to 2010 he was the Group Chief Financial Officer of Mobiserve, a key player in the mobile telecom network infrastructure in 9 countries within the Middle East and South Asia. Prior to shifting his career to finance he established the operation of Raya Distribution in Algeria and managed merchandising activities in all 34 shops in of Nokia and Samsung in Egypt. Mr. Nessim holds a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering and he is also one of the earlier people in Egypt to hold the CFA designation in 2004.

Hisham Zazou Non-Executive Member

Mr. Hisham Zazou is an Egyptian businessman and politician who has been serving as an assistant to the Minster of Tourism from 2007 till 2012 and then the minister of Tourism from  2012 t0 2016. Zazou began his career in the CitiBank Group for five years in Cairo. Then he helped to establish a tourist agency in the US focusing on the Egyptian market and began to work in the tourism field. From 2004 to 2007, Zazou served as the chair of the Egyptian Tourism Federation.
