Orascom Development Egypt (ODE) is an integrated developer of resort towns in Egypt, with a vertically-integrated business model involving the development of residential units, hotels, and recreational facilities such as golf courses, town centers, and marinas, in addition to supporting infrastructure, such as hospitals, schools, and utilities. ODE currently owns a land bank of 49.9 million square meter and 24 hotels with a total of 4,918 rooms within four operating destinations. El Gouna, on the Egyptian Red Sea Coast in Hurghada, Taba Heights, on the Sinai Peninsula, Makadi Heights in Hurghada and Byoum in Fayoum.

Manal Hussein Chairwoman of ODE

Dr. Manal, has been the advisor to the chairman of Orascom Development since September 2013 on several projects. For more than 20 years she has served in the Egyptian Governmental sector, amongst others as Deputy Minister of Finance and Head of the Budgeting Committee from 2004 to 2013, and as Deputy Minister of Trade from 2003 to 2004 and advisor to the Minister of Economy from 1997 to 2001. She has been appointed by Presidential Decree as member of the Shura Consultative Council (upper house of the Egyptian parliament) from 2004 to 2011. She has also been appointed chairman of e-finance, the Egyptian market leader in the field of electronic payment solutions, and has served on the board of companies with interests in banking, aviation, tourism, transport and telecommunication. She holds a B.Sc. in Mass Communication with honors from Cairo University and an MA in Public Administration from the American University in Cairo where she was awarded the Frank Wisner Award for her outstanding thesis. In 2008, she received a PhD in Public Administration, with highest honors, from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University.

Khaled Bichara CEO of ODH & ODE

Khaled Bichara is the Chief Executive Officer of Orascom Development Holding, a co-founder of Accelero Capital and previously served as Group President and Chief Operating Officer of VimpelCom Ltd. He was also CEO of Orascom Telecom Holding S.A.E. and COO of Wind Telecomunicazioni S.p.A. Mr Bichara played a pivotal role in the merger of VimpelCom with Wind Telecom to create the world’s sixth largest telecommunications carrier with a total value of USD 25.7 billion.  He managed ten operations across the globe through Orascom Telecom and Wind Italy, and 22 operations across the globe through VimpelCom.  Mr Bichara was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Orascom Telecom and Wind Telecom in 2009, bringing with him a wealth of experience in both telecommunications and information technology coupled with strong management and entrepreneurial expertise. Prior to this he was Chief Operating Officer of Wind Italy which he joined in 2005, heading the fixed line and portal business unit before becoming Chief Operating Officer: during this time he played a key role in the company’s restructure, completing the successful turnaround of Wind Italy from a continuously loss-making company to one of the leading European mobile, fixed line and broadband integrated operators within three years.   Prior to joining Wind Italy, Mr Bichara was the co-founder, Chairman and CEO of LINKdotNET (LDN), one of the largest private Internet Service Providers in the Middle East. In 2001, following successful negotiations, Microsoft chose to partner with LDN to launch MSN Arabia, the Middle East’s first global portal, bringing the full experience of MSN to the region’s internet users.  In 2011 he served as Group Executive Chairman of Orascom Telecom and Chairman of Wind Italy, and is currently a board member of various telecom and IT companies, including SUPERNAP International S.A, developer of the world-renowned SUPERNAP data centers.  He is also a board member of Orascom Construction Limited (a company listed on both the NASDAQ Dubai and the Egyptian Stock Exchange) and Orascom Development Egypt S.A.E (listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange).  Mr Bichara is a member of the Advisory Board for the Computer Science and Engineering Department of the American University in Cairo, and was previously a member of the GSMA board.  He holds a Bachelor of Science from the American University in Cairo.

Samih Sawiris Chairman of ODH & Non-Executive Member

After receiving his Diploma in economic engineering from the Technical University of Berlin in 1980, Mr. Sawiris founded his first company, National Marine Boat Factory. In 1996 he established Orascom Projects for Touristic Development and in 1997 Orascom Hotel Holdings, the two companies that later merged to form Orascom Hotels & Development S.A.E. Further-more, Mr. Sawiris established El Gouna Beverages Co. in 1997, which he sold in 2001 when it was the largest beverage company in Egypt. As of April 1, 2014, Mr. Sawiris took over the position of the CEO on ad-interim basis of Orascom Development and serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Michael Ryan Non-Executive Member

Mr. Ryan is a pioneer and visionary in luxury resort and residential development. For more than twenty years he has consistently broken new ground and raised the bar for what is possible. He partnered with people who are all recognized as the very best in their fields, whether it is Greg Norman for Golf design, Eric Ripert for food, Nick Bollittieri for Tennis, La Prairie for Spas, Jean-Michel Cousteau for environmental programs, Ritz-Carlton for hotels & service. Similarly in the fields of finance; Blackstone Group, Credit Suisse, Royal Bank of Scotland, Mitsui Sumitomo and others chose to work with Mr. Ryan. His most recent project in London, Lloyds Chambers, where he has partnered with former Treasury Secretary John Snow, Fosun and Aviva is another example of his ability to see value & act on it to secure outsized returns. Mr. Ryan is based, through his company Silverfin Development in Grand Cayman, & has been involved in projects from Canada to Costa Rica, London to Vietnam. He is prominently known in Cayman for his charity work having, for the past ten years, been the main benefactor of the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, raising funds for this charity through the now famous annual Legends Tennis Charity Event. He was Chairman of the Cayman Islands National Investment Council, & has been on the boards of the Private Finance Initiative Oversight Committee, the Cayman Islands Investment Council & the Planning Review Committee.

Amr Badr Non-Executive Member

Mr. Badr currently holds the position of Regional Managing Director of Abercrombie & Kent for Egypt and the Middle East. Abercrombie & Kent has been a worldwide leader in luxury travel since its establishment in 1962. Abercrombie & Kent Egypt is a full-service travel agency and ground operator with extensive experience in leisure, cruise, conferences, events, and educational travel. Mr. Badr also oversees A&K’s operations in Morocco, Jordan, and Libya. In 2013, Amr Badr has been appointed to be a Board member on the Egypt – U.S. Business council and also on the Board of the Egyptian National Tourism Association. Mr. Badr also serves as International advisor for the Future University in Egypt as well as the Board of Directors of Tomorrow’s Youth International Organization based in Washington. He is also an active member of the Egypt Chapter of the Partners of New Beginning based in Washington. Mr. Badr also serves as an advisor to the Chairman & CEO of Carbon Holding International, the largest fertilizer and petrochemical company in the region.  As a longtime advocate for peace and increased international understanding, Mr. Badr also serves on the Board of Directors of Seeds of Peace, an organization dedicated to empowering young leaders from regions of conflict with the leadership skills required to advance reconciliation and coexistence. Badr also serves on the Board of Directors of People to People International and serves on the Advisory Board of the United States Center for Citizen Diplomacy.

Ashraf Nessim CFO of ODH & ODE & Non-Executive Member

Eng. Nessim has more than 20 years of experience in various fields including finance, infrastructure and hospitality. He currently holds the position of the Group’s Chief Financial Officer of Orascom Development Holding. He is also the Chief Financial Officer of Orascom Hotels and Development the Egyptian largest subsidiary of the group which encompasses 64 subsidiaries. Prior to joining the group he was the Chief Financial Officer representing Beltone Private Equity in their Pick Albatros Investment, one of the largest players in the travel and tourism industry in Egypt with almost 6,000 rooms under management. He played a pivotal role in the legal and financial restructuring of Pick Albatros Group. From 2007 to 2010 he was the Group Chief Financial Officer of Mobiserve, a key player in the mobile telecom network infrastructure in 9 countries within the Middle East and South Asia. Prior to shifting his career to finance he established the operation of Raya Distribution in Algeria and managed merchandising activities in all 34 shops in of Nokia and Samsung in Egypt. Mr. Nessim holds a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering and he is also one of the earlier people in Egypt to hold the CFA designation in 2004.

Hisham Zazou Non-Executive Member

Mr. Hisham Zazou is an Egyptian businessman and politician who has been serving as an assistant to the Minster of Tourism from 2007 till 2012 and then the minister of Tourism from  2012 t0 2016. Zazou began his career in the CitiBank Group for five years in Cairo. Then he helped to establish a tourist agency in the US focusing on the Egyptian market and began to work in the tourism field. From 2004 to 2007, Zazou served as the chair of the Egyptian Tourism Federation.
